Mayor pleads for help in getting Timmins out of stay-at-home order

Timmins Mayor George Pirie says our region is at risk of remaining in COVID-19 lockdown, once other parts of the province are released from it. He’s pleading with the people of the city to double down on efforts to combat the virus.

Pirie notes that the majority of the more than 100  active cases in the region are in Timmins.  He adds that keeping people safe has always been his first priority.

“But I also want to see Timmins reopen and thrive,” he remarks. “I want to see our local businesses welcome back customers. It has been a stressful time, a time of uncertainty and this is a key moment in our fight against COVID-19.”

Pirie says each city resident has to stay safe so we can play golf; buy what we need for home improvements; buy tackle and bait to go fishing; and get a haircut.

“So that our children can go back to school,” he continues, “so that our children can play with their friends. We know how to achieve this. Stay at home and as much as possible only go out for essential items.”
