Timmins police kick off Helmets On bike safety program

Timmins police have launched their annual Helmets On summer program.  When a police officer sees a young person wearing his or her helmet while riding a bike, the officer may gave the cyclist a ticket.  But the ticket is a reward for wearing the helmet.  Constable Rick Lemieux says the ticket gets young riders prizes like free passes to Hollinger Mini-Putt or the Archie Dillon Sportsplex pool.  Lemieux, who handed out 13 tickets during Friday’s launch, says it’s a great way to ensure people, even adults, wear a bicycle helmet.
