The province’s move to stop the upcoming minimum wage increases is being applauded by the Timmins Chamber of Commerce.
The PC government has halted the Liberal government’s decision to increase Ontario’s minimum wage to $15 an hour starting in January. Chamber President Nancy Mageau says this is something the chamber has been fighting for almost a year and it’s great to see this step being taken.
Mageau says the government should take some research steps before anything goes forward. “A comprehensive economic impact analysis needs to be completed before any further changes to employment legislation can be made.
Mageau says anything like this “impacts the businesses as a whole when you have an increase that is put on them that’s beyond their control.”
Back in January, the MyTimminsNow Newsroom spoke to a few local businesses about the minimum wage increase and how it would affect them. A few of them said they would for sure have to up prices and potentially cut staff in order to afford the wage increases. (click here for the full article)
She says the chamber will continue to work with the government and bring local business concerns forward.
