Voting Starts on Monday

Online Voting for the municipal election starts on Monday.

You can now go online and vote for your choice of mayor, ward councillor and school board trustee out of the 47 candidates. City Clerk Steph Palmateer says setting up your online vote is a two-step process which starts with inputting a number on your mailed voter notification card into the online voting portal.  “That will allow them to input a security question and answer a security question. Once done they will be sent a pin. Once they have that pin they will have to go back in, log in, then they will be able to vote using that pin that was provided.”

Palmateer says if you are in Ward 5, you will be able to vote for up to four councillors, but you don’t have to use all four votes.

He says you will only be able to log in and vote one time. He says if you click “submit” without fully filling out your choices, you will not be able to log back in. He says “if they don’t complete their ballot, they can stop, exit out of the system and go back later as long as you don’t click the submit button.” He says this is so if you have any questions, you can come and talk to election staff or give City Hall a call before you finalize your vote.

For people who may not be able to access the online voting system at home, Palmateer says there will be computers set up at both libraries, the Timmins Chamber of Commerce and City Hall. Traditional paper ballots will be taken on the Election Day set on October 22nd.
