Timmins Skater Heads to Europe to Perform

A Timmins figure skater is heading off to Europe.

Julia Polowy has been skating since she was 18-months-old and has recently been accepted to skate in this winter’s Holiday On Ice show. This show will be touring Germany and France for six months. The 18-year-old girl says this is really special to her because she is following in her mom’s footsteps. She adds that her mom used to dance in the Ice Capades.

She says this whole experience is still surreal. Polowy says she sent in an application to this international opportunity not thinking of the outcome. “I just put this little video together and a resume and I sent it off. Within about a week they e-mailed back and said we accepted you for the position, you have two weeks to accept.” She says then it was like, “oh wow this is actually happening.”

Polowy says she will be away for a total of seven months because there is a month of training in Belgium. She says she is very excited because she will be skating with people from around the world. Polowy adds that it will be a very busy year for her because she is also working on her high school victory lap. “I’m doing online courses out of high school so I can do them in Europe while touring with the show. After the seven months is done, we will see, I might extend my contract and maybe do some online university courses or maybe do a different show.”

Polowy will be starting her Europian journey on October 20th.
