Will the Northlander be a day train or a night train? Here’s the answer

Ever since it was announced that Northlander passenger rail service is coming back, there’s been speculation whether it will be a day train or a night train.

Ontario Northland senior communications manager Kate Bondett says the train will leave Timmins at midnight and arrive at Toronto Union Station at 10:30am.

“When we initially started planning for the service,” she says, “we went out to communities and asked them what they wanted to see in a schedule. Overwhelmingly, and we still hear it today, people want to arrive in Toronto in the morning.”

“Similarly, we heard that people want to come back that same day, and so we’ll have an evening service the leaves Union Station at 6:30 and till arrive back in Timmins at five o’clock in the morning.”

The service along the Hwy. 11 corridor is expected to go into service in 2026.
