Opioid task force issues red alert

A red alert has been issued by the people who monitor the frequency of opioid use in the Porcupine Health Unit’s territory.

The Opioid Emergency Response Task Force says there’s an increase lately in what it calls “toxicity events” related to opioids.

Along with that is a reminder that opioid poisoning can occur anywhere, anytime and to anyone, even if you don’t use that type of drugs frequently.

The task force also urges anyone who uses them to carry Naloxone, which can temporarily reverse the effect and maybe save your life.  Naloxone is available for free at any health unit office and some pharmacies.
