Pirie supports suspension of expansion of supervised injection site pending study

The Conservative MPP for Timmins says pausing funding for services like the safe drug injection site in Timmins is the right thing to do.

Sunday is the last day for supervised injections at the Cedar St. N. location, until government funding is restored.

George Pirie says the pause is to allow for a study of drug issues, from addiction to recovery.

“We’re working very closely with DSSAB as well, with other locations, developing other locations, says Pirie. “So I think it’s the right thing to do.”

The study has been ordered by associate minister for mental health and addictions Michael Tibollo. Pirie points out that Tibollo is the first-ever cabinet member with that mandate.
