As quiet as the forest fire season in our region has been this year, there are a couple new, albeit minor fires to report, headed into the weekend.
There are two very small ones south of Timmins and west of Highway 144. MNRF fire information officer Evan Lizotte says one is point-three-hectares in size, the other one is three hectares, and they’re both being held.
Lizotte tells My Timmins Now Dot Com that the weekend weather forecast is for light wind and potentially some rain.
“Wind is always a big factor but luckily, it doesn’t seem to be an extreme wind,” he states. “The rain – we’ll take any rain that we can get. It just depends where the rain falls, if it happens to be over the fires or not.”
The fire danger rating is high in these parts, with small pockets where it’s extreme.
