Hearst hosting snowmobile education safety day for kids in march

The Voyageur Snowmobile club in Hearst is giving children an up close and personal look at snowmobiles and snowmobile safety on Tuesday, March 4 at the town hall parking lot at 9 am.

Serge Pominville and Crystel Vallee are the coordinators. Valle says more than 900 school children from Calstock to Mattice have been invited to make their way through five stations.

“The OPP with the MAPs, we have the MNR, we have the club Voyageur, the paramedics, the firefighters and their bringing their sleigh,” she said. “We also have Mylene (Coloumbe-Gratton) with Follow Her North she’s going to be welcoming the kids.”

Valle says the focus will be on slowing down on the trails, and respecting landowners.

“These are going to be the basics of the whole thing but at the same time we are going to be talking about dressing appropriately, having the right gear, helmet wind and the cold,” she aid.

Valle and co-organizer Serge Pominville say an event like this has been needed for a while due to the rise in accidents. They add that interest in their activity is growing and other clubs and community are looking at following with their lead. The day is being professionally recorded and shared with other clubs in the region.
