As school heads back into session, council is looking at ways to keep all students safe.
Council will be hearing a presentation about adding cameras to the school bus stop-arms. The draft motion that is being brought to the round-table says drivers who don’t stop for school buses when children are going on and off the bus can face fines ranging from $400 to $2,000. The report says due to a lack of resources of enforcement, vehicles “blow by” school buses on a daily basis.
The Ministry of Transportation is looking at possibly adding the cameras to catch those who don’t follow the rules, but MTO needs to hear from the city before writing a formal bill.
Tomorrow’s council meeting will be held in Council Chambers starting at 6:00pm.
