ATV club ready with plan for first phase of streets to allow trail access in Timmins

An open house next Monday night gives all-terrain vehicle enthusiasts a chance to look at Phase 1 of a plan to allow ATVs on certain streets in Timmins.

It’s from 7:00pm until 9:00pm at the Best Western hotel on Airport Road.

Timmins ATV Club president Rick Marin says it’s much like what the snowmobile club did, opening sections one year after another allowing street use to get to trails.  This phase is from Shirley Street and west of there. In future years, it will spread to other parts of town.

“And also do a loop around the city and to get to restaurants,” Marin outlines. “‘Let’s go for an ATV ride today, let’s go to a restaurant’ or have people come out from other towns and have motels and enjoy the outdoors, right?”

Phase 1 goes to city council next month for approval.

Marin says ATVers use some snowmobile trails, but not exclusively.

“Summertime is not the same as in wintertime, right? It’s not hard to groom snow and make a nice trail, but in the summertime, when you’ve got swamps and holes and everything else, it’s fun to play in the mud, but not all the time.”

More on Phase 1 and the activities of the ATV club are in the audio of our discussion with Rick Marin posted below.
