Heritage week underway in Timmins

Ontario Heritage week is underway, an opportunity to explore and reflect on the rich history of Timmins.

Chairman of the Municipal Heritage Committee Andrew Marks says buildings like the McIntyre Community Centre and Mackechnie (Mah-kek-knee) House help strengthen the memory of the residents, and it’s important that they are preserved for future generations.

Mackechnie House at 438 Wilson Avenue was the first historic building honoured by the city and plans are in the works to celebrate the McIntyre Community Centre.

The Municipal building has also recently been added to that same register. You can find out more about nominating property for designation by completing an application form on the city of Timmins website. Inquiries are made through the planning staff.
