Ontario Provincial Police were one of several group and organizations that attended the Snowmobile Safety Event at the Hearst Town Hall parking lot today. Community Safety Officer and Constable Kyler Brouwer says whether it’s Hearst or a recent memorial hockey tournament in Moosonee and Moose Factory, it’s important for police to attend these types of activities.
“We made a special effort to not only attend but also publish a lot of the experiences we were having up there,” he said. “So we were able to meet lots of the emergency service workers, other members of the different divisions of the OPP.”
In Hearst close to 900 elementary and high school students from Mattice to Calstock were going to be learning more about safety and being respectful on snowmobiles.
Brouwer says the snowmobile event allows officers to remind the students and those in attendance about alcohol and speed contributing to accidents on the trails.
“It was a great way to communicate that type of message to a lot of people there’s going to be lots of elementary and high schools attending, and community organizations participating sending out that important safety message,” he said.
It was organized by the Voyageur Snowmobile Club.
