TH&VS planning food drive

Right in time for Easter, students from Timmins High and Vocational School are hitting the streets next week for a food drive.

Teacher James Aston is hoping as many as six-hundred students participate.

“After lunch on Thursday, April 17th,” he says, “the kids sign up for one of the nine buses that have been generously donated from Leuschen Transportation and First Canada.”

They’ll be canvassing in Mountjoy and in Ward 5 between TH&VS and the hospital, picking up your donations of non-perishable food, personal hygiene items and grocery store cards.

“We divide the food between the Timmins Food Bank, the First Baptist Church – they have a food bank there – and Timmins High actually has a food bank here for our students,” says Aston.

The aim is to gather more than 3,000 pounds of merchandise. Participating students get two community volunteer hours.

This is the school’s 20th food drive, but only the first since the pandemic.
